Italian Giorgia Bronzini took the victory in the Points Race, which closed women’s rivalry during the 2009 Track Cycling World Championships in Pruszkow.
Giorgia Bronzini rode very actively the whole distance of 100 laps, winning points eight times, which gave her a total of 18 points. A different, but also very effective, tactics was used by Cuban Yumari Gonzalez Valdivieso. Although she gained points only three times (15 in total), on the finish number 1, 5 and 10, she was the fastest in each of them, which ensured her the silver. British Elizabeth Armitstead, who earned 13 points, won the bronze by inches.
